Getting the “plain” truth about building too close to the Carson River and a more “common sense” approach to keeping the river healthy
A report card on the health of the Carson River indicates that a lot of commonly held opinions on the river’s general condition may not hold water. To a surprised gathering of river advocates and scientists, they learned that going for obvious improvements may trump endless research and parameter number crunching. They were also told that if cities and counties along the river want to avoid a financial disaster with the Carson, as Reno and Sparks have had with the Truckee, they should do all they can to avoid building in the river’s floodplain.
Correction for an error in the story. The Carson City Flood Plain public meeting is May 7th (not 22nd) at the Carson City Library, 6-8pm.
